AC Configure Syslog does exactly that; it configures Syslog. The syslog logging service is, in our view, already extremely good and versatile. The recent trend is to reinvent the wheel with numerous alternatives to centralised or local logging. Apache Log4j, Splunk, and many others all attempt to effectively fix what is not broken.
Of course, other logging mechanism all have a valid place. However, system logging for the purpose of system administration and auditing is best served by a simple system and Syslog has provided that for years.
AC Configure Syslog provides pre determined templates for defining log levels, retention, and even whether logging should be local, remote, or local and accepting remote logging messages.
It may not suit every use case. However, in the context of most systems, AC Configure Syslog will get your syslog configuration tuned and ready in about five seconds.
